Har-Fest September 10th 2017

This information will appear again in the June and August editions of the Gossip.  So do get growing and making!

Any age can enter any entry unless specified.

Sections and Classes

Vegetables and fruit

  1. 3 potatoes

  2. 3 carrots – trimmed

  3. 3 beetroot – as grown

  4. 3 onions, any size, trimmed

  5. 5 different kinds of veg, one of each on a tray or board

  6. 3 different kinds of fruit (any number) in a basket

  7. 3 apples (any variety)

Home Produce

1)  A Banana and Walnut loaf (Men and boys only please)

Recipe: -100g softened butter, 140g caster sugar, 1 beaten egg, 225g plain flour, 2 tsp baking powder, 4 ripe bananas, 85g chopped walnuts, 50ml milk.

Oven at 180C/160C fan.

Grease and line 2lb tin. In a bowl mix the butter, sugar and egg. Slowly mix in the flour and baking powder.  Peel and mash the bananas. Add the bananas, nuts and milk to the mix and stir together. Pour the mixture into the tin and bake for 1 hour (approx). Allow to cool before removing from the tin.

6) 6 chocolate brownies

7) Any Victoria sponge with raspberry filling, no cream.

This year the Scarecrow competition is back. So please put out your ‘Traditional Scarecrow’ in front of your house where the judges can see them, from September 2nd and they will be judged on the 9th and rosettes presented at Har-Fest on the 10th September.

Har-Fest schedule

The doors of the School will be opened at 10am on the 10th.

The doors will close for judging at 12 noon.

The doors will re-open for viewing at 12.45pm

The School will close at 3pm.

A certificate will be given for all first prizes.

1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes will receive a rosette.

The judges decisions are final.

Please bring your entries with a card for each entry with your name and the section and class number.

Also in October we will be holding an evening party to celebrate the film ‘Dirty Dancing’ …… date yet to be finalised, so get your dancing shoes on.
